The Bridge Day 250’ Rappel gives the general public the opportunity to be a Bridge Day participant. The first 250’ rappel off the New River Gorge Bridge was done in October 1993 when a participant from the Oprah Show did the rappel as part of the Show’s Week of Fears. Through the years, this rappel has been done for training, demonstrations, scouts, and part of Bridge Day.

250′ Rappel Registration

The 2018 Bridge Day 250’ Rappeller will rappel from the New River Gorge Bridge’s catwalk on the north end of the Bridge to State Route 82. You will be belayed with additional safety measures as needed. Your rappel will be 250 vertical feet.

Individual High Line Registration

The Bridge Day High Line gives the general public the opportunity to be a Bridge Day participant.  This will be the 19th Bridge Day High Line with over 2,200 riders. The high line rider glides from the New River Gorge Bridge’s catwalk to State Route 82. Your speed is controlled by a belayer. You drop 300 vertical feet while sliding 600-700’.

Individual Registration – Bottom Passes

Each rappel team must have people at the bottom of the rappel to monitor the rope and know how to bottom belay. The Bottom Pass is not for those people rappelling. Anyone at the bottom (i.e., beneath the Bridge near the ropes) on Bridge Day not rappelling must have a Bottom Pass. You must be a member of a team.

Individual Registration – Rappellers

The New River Gorge Bridge is one of the longest free rappels that you can do anywhere in the world. The New River Gorge Bridge Day rappel is 851’. Bridge Day rappellers are expected to be an experienced with long rappels and familiar with the skills, equipment, and rescue techniques associated with rappelling. Rappelling can be dangerous! Each participant must assume personal responsibility for his/her own safety You must be a member of a team. We do not assign individuals to teams.
